It is a description of the characteristics we expect our graduates to have. We expect them to be professional, excellent communicators, good collaborators leaders, global practitioners capable of working all over the world and scholars who can develop their careers as they move forward. Throughout the program we develop the resilience of our students, while also ensuring their well being throughout. There are three different entry points into the school of medicine at rcsi bahrain, depending on the applicant’s academic record and level of achievement. The mcp is a one year program and is the first point of entry for applicants who require additional time to bring their language level and science. Subject: exposure up to the required levels applicants can also enter the medical program at foundation year, which is considered the first year of a six year program. The third entry point in the medical program is year, one which accommodates direct entry, students with high levels of academic achievement in international curricula, such as the a levels ib, as well as graduates of science and biomedical science degrees. The mcp is a one year program designed to be a bridge to territory learning for students who require additional support in science and language. It comprises 12 modules over two semesters, including biology, chemistry, physics, third, level, learning and medical terminology. You can expect to encounter lectures. Tutorials group and individual work and self directed learning all teaching in the mcp is delivered in small class sizes to ensure that students have the necessary level of support to progress successfully through the mcp foundation.
Year is the first year of the six year medical program. It will provide you with a solid grounding in the biomedical sciences and professionalism, as well as all the necessary i.t skills to operate efficiently within the college’s virtual learning environment. The course is delivered as a series of standalone five credit modules taught in in a single semester and 10 credit integrated systems based modules delivered across two semesters. You will encounter a blended approach to teaching and learning with lectures, tutorials small group teaching, laboratory, practicals and elective project based work. All featuring prominently tutorials serve to reinforce and enhance students, understanding of the fundamental concepts covered in lectures, and they also test basic understanding through applied problems. In a practical context, elective opportunities in foundation year facilitates students, growing awareness of the crucial roles that communication, culture, collaboration, critical thinking, medical ethics, information, literacy, project management and self reflection play in the professional practice of medicine in year. One you will cover the essential biomedical sciences. Topics in modules such as fundamentals of biomedicine and pharmacology systems based modules such as cardiorespiratory biology, musculoskeletal biology and many others build upon the fundamentals covered before your first introduction to the key clinical skills you will, you will use as a doctor will also take place in Year, one in the in the module introduction to professional practice year, two of the medicine program focuses on the abnormal bodily functions. Students also complete an individual research or audit project called the student selected project. This project is composed of a short introductory skills week, followed by a six week, research placement. The research project is a flexible program which is undertaken either at an rcsi institution or affiliated hospital or at an institution overseas. You will encounter a blend of tutorials case and team based learning, core didactic, lectures, clinical attachments simulation, teaching, individual and team projects and supervise research. During your time in year, three, during the final two years of the medicine program in year, four and five you will be attached to various rcsi teaching hospitals located throughout bahrain, providing you with different learning opportunities in year, four students will be attached on a rotational basis For seven weeks to obstetrics and gynecology medicine and surgery, family, medicine, psychiatry and neonatal and pediatrics, students will be fully immersed in a specialty during each attachment and will be and will participate fully with the clinical teams in a hospital and community health care based setting.
During the final year year, five you will be attached to medicine and surgery disciplines at local, national and international hospitals of particular interest during year. Five is the sub internship program. This offers students the opportunity to function as a member of a clinical team in preparation for internship following graduation. The clinical training starts early in the medical program at rcsi bahrain in year. One you will get the opportunity to develop your professional communication skills and clinical skills within the safe environment of the university and, in particular, our clinical simulation center, which is equipped with cutting edge high fidelity mannequins. When you are ready, you will then transition to developing these skills in a nationwide network of community health centers and also the three main public hospitals in bahrain. In the pre clinical years, the university has employed a system of simultaneous face to face and online delivery so that all students can attend, engaging and interacting live classes together to ensure that no student misses any teaching.
