The Lost Crown
The Lost Crown is a 2D action-adventure game, a true metroidvania and a return to the roots of the series. In this game, players take control of Sargon the immortal, as he explores the sacred Mount calf. The heart of Persia on a rescue mission to save the titular Prince.
Sargon’s Powers
Sargon is not alone on his quest. As an immortal, he is one of seven super powerful warriors whove been blessed with extraordinary abilities. Using these powers and his exceptional weapon skills, I battled ferocious monsters explored several distinct, biomes and platformed. My way, through countless treacherous.
Gameplay
The demo I played Sargon is thrown quickly into the action in which I had to learn to slide Dash and wall jump. My way into brand new areas hitting switches and manipulating platforms. Moving past spiked, logs and spinning blades is a prince of Persias staple. So long time, fans will appreciate that that makes a return here too. Many of the puzzles have a magical or time manipulation element as well and thats, where sargons other abilities come into play.
The Prince of Persia franchise is all about reinvention, and The Lost Crown is no exception. Thanks for watching the video – and I hope you enjoy – the Prince of Persia has been kidnapped – sounds crazy. You know maybe a little counter intuitive even but Prince approached the Lost Crown a new take on the story.
Sargon: The Prince of Persia Protagonist
Sargon is the latest protagonist to join the Prince of Persia series. He is a strong and agile fighter with the grace and energy of a caged tiger. He wields two blades which have context sensitive attacks, allowing for multi-hit combos. Sargon also has a bow and arrow to make short work of foes from afar.
Sargon’s Extensive Moveset
Sargon has a suite of movement options that make him a formidable opponent. He has the agility and parkour skills of other Prince of Persia protagonists, and the blend of Titan, trolls, platforming and exploration is a direct callback to the original Prince of Persia game even from 1989. He can dash to put himself out of enemy range and set himself up for counter attacks. He can also do an air dash which is perfect for making it across large gaps and other platforming challenges.
Sargon’s Chakra Disc
Sargon also has a very satisfying Perry which can be used on specifically telegraphed enemy attacks. With the tap of a button, he can shoot arrows in any direction for a quick hit of damage. By holding down that same button, he can throw a strong bouncing, chakra type disc thingy that has all kinds of cool combo potential when mixed with melee strikes and range attacks.
Sargon on the Sacred Mountain
Sargon’s agility and moveset were put to the test on the sacred mountain. With his combination of melee and range attacks, he was able to clean up the dangerous enemies that suddenly appeared. His suite of movement options allowed him to slip into secret areas and make it across large gaps with ease.
Sargon: A Unique Gameplay Experience
Sargon is an upcoming game that offers players a unique and customizable experience. Players take on the role of Sargon, a character with a meter that charges with successful combo strikes. This allows Sargon to unleash either a defensive or offensive ultimate in the end. Players can also unlock and swap out more ultimates at different save points, allowing them to tailor Sargon to their preferred playstyle.
Healing Checkpoints and Amulets
Throughout the game, players come across magical trees that act as healing checkpoints. Here, players can refill their arrow quivers and equip different amulets, allowing their playstyle to change wildly. One amulet turns Sargon’s three hit combo into a four hit flurry, while another one allows his charged ranged attack to gain burst damage. Experimenting with amulets is going to be an important part of the game, and players can expect approximately 40 different amulets available when the game ships in January of next year.
Advanced Techniques
In addition to the amulets, Sargon also has a time freezing teleport. This skill is necessary for certain puzzles and can be supercharged when messing with amulets, allowing players to chain a laser when they warp or cause a concussive blast to erase their frozen echo. During the play session, players were able to use almost every amulet and each combination feels substantially different. A helpful developer even showcased some advanced techniques.
Unique Combat and Traversal in Ubisoft’s New Game
Ubisoft’s new game offers players a unique experience with its combat and traversal. Players can use their freeze and tandem with their charged range attack to reflect their own chakra with sword strikes. They can also charge a strike only to freeze it and then rewind time back to that moment to attack quickly for two attacks in a row. Air juggling enemies allows players to build meaner combos more quickly.
Variety of Enemies
Players will face a variety of enemies, from weaker foes with basic, easy to parry attacks to spear-wielding foes with shields. Flying enemies and stronger enemy types will challenge players and push their skills to their limits. The game also features fantastical creatures inspired by ancient Persian folklore, as well as a slew of bosses and mini-bosses.
Boss Battles
At the end of the first gameplay section, players will face a massive boss battle against a manticore-like creature. This fight will require players to use every trick in the book to parry and dodge its attacks. Charging up and utilizing ultimates will be rewarded with a fun cinematic cut scene. Players can play through the demo multiple times to experience it with different amulets and a better mastery of their skills. No matter what they have equipped, they will be able to defeat the boss and get quicker with each subsequent run.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
I recently had the chance to get my hands on the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and I was blown away by what I experienced. Although I can’t show all the footage I captured, I can tell you that the game offers a wide variety of gameplay and a visually stunning anime-inspired art style.
Exploration and Combat
The first 45 minutes of my playthrough was spent exploring the map and uncovering hidden entrances to secret mini boss fights. These fights were challenging and rewarding, and upon vanquishing my foe I was rewarded with an incredible ultimate attack.
The rest of the demo was spent in several late game locations. One featured a challenging platforming section where I had to be completely aware of all of my traversal abilities and powers, while another offered a mix of combat and exploration, where I fought several different enemies and found countless secrets.
Story and Visuals
Although I didn’t get to see much of the story play out, what I did see promised a wide, diverse cast of characters. The visual and animation effects are clearly influenced by anime, superheroes and even fighting games.
Overall, I played Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown for about three hours and I’m very excited to see what the full game has to offer.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a game that revels in style and flair. Developed with the Nintendo Switch in mind, the game runs buttery smooth at a locked 60fps, even in handheld mode. It’s a new capture of the Prince of Persia franchise, but one that takes its legacy seriously.
Metroidvania Style
The game is heavily inspired by the Metroidvania style of game. Players will explore a sprawling world, unlocking new abilities and secrets as they progress. The game promises to be an exciting and rewarding experience.
Release Date
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is set to be released on January 18th, 2024. It will be available on all platforms, so no matter what system you have, you can enjoy the game.
Early Access
Ubisoft Montpierre has allowed a select few to play an early version of the game. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the game’s style and gameplay.
