Less Fun Games

The list of upcoming games begins with less fun titles, such as Time Shift Warrior. This top-down hack and slash title has a time manipulation mechanic, allowing you to rewind time and fight alongside clones of your past self. Interestingly, the game is being published by Quantic Dream and other Detroit people, now under the Netease banner.

Ettie

Ettie is a first-person narrative puzzle exploration game where you play as a painter using your brush and colors on the everyday canvas of life. It looks beautiful and you can create custom artwork for commissions.

Hells Heat

Hells Heat is a skateboarding game mixing real grinds and kickflips with combat and a roguelite structure. It isn’t appealing visually, but it is weird and unique, showing what’s possible with Indie Games.

Volvo

Volvo went all out with their fake mascot and putting him in some of their games. However, the reception to their main showcase was a little lackluster, as the highly anticipated Gabriella and Pepper Grinder were conspicuously absent. Sludge Live 2, which was featured in the pre-show, was more interesting.

Excursion

Excursion is an open world game that has you searching for your friend while vandalizing the ugly architecture as you go along. It has a signature art style and is releasing at the end of the month.

The Talos Principle 2

The Talos Principle 2 is the follow up to a surprisingly excellent first person puzzle game from developer crew team, also known as The Serious Sam people. The visuals are impressive, and it is sure to keep an eye on this game.

Hunty

Hunty is a game where you play as a ghost exploring eternity. You have the ability to hunt things possessing both animals and the environment itself, having some action and shoot them up elements and is quite a unique entry.

Cocoon

Cocoon is a top down puzzle adventure game where you play as a humanoid, but person orbs are Central to this game, which is primarily used in solving puzzles. There is also combat against Mighty Guardians, but that might not be the focus of the game.

Introduction

This month is seeing the release of several exciting new games, from open world adventures to puzzle games and top down adventures. Excursion, The Talos Principle 2, Hunty and Cocoon are all titles that are sure to keep gamers entertained.

Limbo and Inside Developer’s New Title

The lead gameplay designer of Limbo and Inside, Playdead, has left the company and is now working on a new title. This title, Kamazoo, is a self-described altruistic, cooperative platformer, where 10 randomly matched players playing as one of 50 different characters must work together to help each other out, all just to get good karma.

Your Grace Sequel

Another title in Devolver’s pre-show is the sequel to Your Grace, where you play as a king and have to keep your people happy while managing the resources available to ensure the survival of your kingdom. The pixel art style has changed slightly in this, adding depth and more 3D looking assets rather than pure flat, 2D pixel art. Lighting adds to the visual appeal of the game.

Foxy Chronicles

The next game from the developer of Mitizioni is titled Foxy Chronicles. It has a similar art style and is also a narrative focused title. This tale is centered around a stolen ship and a kidnapped Captain with a whole nautical theme. If their first game is anything to go by, the writing and characters will be the main draw.

Fuel Finder

Fuel Finder is a first person puzzle game that plays with perspective. Players use a camera to take pictures and then use them to solve puzzles and advance further. Excitingly, Fuel Finder has a release date of July, so players can look forward to playing soon.

The Cosmic Wheel: Sisterhood

The Cosmic Wheel: Sisterhood is a pixel art narrative title where players take on the role of a witch condemned to exile on an asteroid. The goal is to craft their own Tarot deck and use it to influence Cosmic Witch Society in order to regain their freedom. The pixel art is pretty and comes to us from Deconstruct Team, the creators of the excellent narrative game The Red Strings Club.

Party Animals

According to Steam Followers Estimation, Party Animals is the most anticipated game on Steam, more than even Silk Song and Starfield. This wobbly physics multiplayer game looks like Gang Beasts and has a release date of September 20th, promising a chaos filled multiplayer experience.

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 was first announced in 2019 and then went radio silent. This expansion sequel to the massive free-to-play game will be getting a showcase spot with the news being that it has a release date.

Action RPG Continues to Look Awesome

Amid all the hype of Diablo 4, Action RPG continues to look awesome and is timed just right. From the developer of Ape Out and Getting Over It comes Baby Steps, a physics based walking simulation that looks like Quark in 3D. As a controller man, precariously taking one step after the next and trying not to fall, 2D Quote was bad enough, and this just ramps things up to the next level, looking absolute torture and seems to be geared towards streamers.

Hyper Light Breaker

We also got another look at Hyper Light Breaker, the follow up to Hyper Light Drifter. Rather than a pixel art top down action adventure game, this is a 3D action role-playing game. While some may not be happy with the change, it still looks kind of cool and deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Summer Hill

Another game with a pedigree is Summer Hill. Coming to us from the developer of the El Tools Adventure Series games, which did supremely well on mobile, this is instead a serene and beautiful looking story driven adventure game. You play as a Shepherd, exploring the pastoral landscape to reunite your flock, uncovering long forgotten secrets in the process. It simply looks wonderful.

Which Fire

This news with regards to Which Fire, a beautifully grim first person shooter set in a dark fantasy world, getting an early access release date in September. Although it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive for now, it looks like it will be worth the wait.

Thief Hum Gets Release Date

Thief Hum, the farm simulation RPG, finally got a release date. It was first shown up at the eventful Nintendo Direct and then again confirmed for Steam. The game is priced at $60, which is quite high for an indie game. The developer, Phoenix Labs, is responsible for the Monster Hunter-like game Dauntless and has four studios all over the world.

Human Fall Flat Sequel

The sequel to Human Fall Flat, one of the most popular indie games, is also a title of interest. Pokemon Gun, also known as Palwow, got a new trailer showing off its insane action-packed monster taming game. Players can use an electric type pedal to electrocute other pedals in the water, and there’s a glimpse of a sweatshop where pals are being forced to manufacture weapons. The game is set to have an early access release window of January 2024.

Korean Pinocchio Bloodborne

Korean Pinocchio Bloodborne, a souls-like title, has been met with some blowback due to its similarities to Bloodborne. The game features transforming weapons and looks impressive and very different from other titles in the space.

Introducing Beastie Ball: A Monster Taming RPG

If you’re a fan of soul-like games, then you’ll be interested to know that a demo of Beastie Ball is available right now until the 26th of June. Developed by the creators of Wonder Song and Chicory, Beastie Ball is a unique monster taming RPG title.

A Volleyball-Playing Team of Monsters

In Beastie Ball, you’ll be coaching a team of monsters who love to play volleyball with each other. There’s a variety of cute and whimsical creatures, as well as a relationship system between them. The developers of Beastie Ball have highlighted that the focus of the game is not on catching monsters, but rather getting to know and spending time with the ones that you care about.

A Different Kind of Monster Game

Beastie Ball is a different kind of monster game. Instead of focusing on capturing monsters, the game encourages you to get to know and build relationships with the creatures you encounter. With the demo available until the 26th of June, now is the perfect time to try out this unique and charming RPG.
